i am a 47 yearold woman had appendectomy 3 weeks ago surgeon tries laposcopy first but ende up having to remove by insision as appendix had started to rupture as highly inflammed . i am a carer and work with manual patient lift hoists and lifting to wheelchairs into cars ect. i am still in a lot of discomfort but i am being asked when can i return to work . i also had to go back to hospital yesterday as query abcess on the wound site after scan examination it proved not to be just inflamed scar tissue
Hi. Thanks for your query. Noted the history and understood the concerns. Since Laparoscopic appendicectomy could not be and done by open method, and there is a query abscess at the wound site, it is not advisable go do any heavy lifting work for at least 6 to 12 weeks at this is the time taken by the body for healthy scar formation. Go for urgen opinion as there is a possibility of incision abscess and may need incision and drainage so that proper antibiotic, anti-inflammatory medications can heal you faster and better. Take plenty oral fluids to maintain hydration.
