Is Metformin Or Amaryl Safe For Heart Issues?

Is Oolong Tea save to drink if I am taking a blood thinner? I know it is known for numerous medicinal properties. Also I am a diebetic who last month suffered from a heart attack which resulted in a stent being placed in my heart. I did take Actos for approximately 4 years. After I refused to take Actos any longer my (Past doctor of 17 years) finally, with an attitude, changed my perscription to Amaryl. When d/c from the hospital last month I was given Medforman to take instead of the Amaryl which I had taken for numerous months. I was hesistant to continue it when I read Metforman can also have the same negative side effects to your heart and Actors. So I am not excited about taking metformin which my new internal medicine doctor is pushing me to take. Is metofman or amarly safer to take if you have had heart issues?

Hello,

I read your message carefully and understood your medical issue.

I noticed this information:
- you drink Oolong tea
- diabetic
- last month experienced a heart attack and a stent placement
- have taken Actors for 4 years, now stopped and take Amaryl instead
- last month Amaryl was substituted by Metformin

I see you have type 2 diabetes which is mostly treated with oral medications. Amaryl, Metformin and Actos are all oral drugs that are used to treat type 2 diabetes.

Oolong tea is produced by the leaves, buds and stems of plant named Camellia sinesis. It is the same plant from which is made black tea and green tea but differs in processing: fully fermented for black tea; unfermented green tea while Oolong tea is semi-fermented.

Every time you use anything, should look inside the ingredients. It contains caffeine which can cause irregular heartbeat in some people. So, I do not recommend its use to you, at least now.

It is true that caffeine can help reduce blood sugar levels; however, you might suffer episodes of low blood sugar (hypoglycemia) which would be a problem as you have a stent placed.

With regards to anti-diabetic medications you are taking, I advise to measure your blood sugar levels (bsl), record the results and report to your doctor to review and see if you need to adjust the dose. Amaryl is commonly associated with hypoglycemia, so adjustment of dose is required.

Furthermore, these drugs help maintain the blood vessels and prevent atherosclerosis. So they help you control your blood sugar and maintain your vessels healthy as well.

I hope this was helpful for you.

I wish fast recovery.
