Hello and welcome to HCM, Pyelectasis refers to ectasia of the pelvis of the kidneys. Pelvis is the dilated part of the kidney which receives the urine from the kidney nephrons and it leads into the ureters. Normally the pelvis lies well within the outline of the kidney. However, in some instances the pelvis may protrude out from the kidney margin. This is called pyelectasis. This is not a life threatening condition. However, it may cause urine stasis in the pelvis in small percentage of cases. If it does occur in future, it can be surgically corrected so do not worry.
