Is Numbness In Ears Normal While On Antibiotics For Pneumonia?
My 12 year old daughter started a z-pack today for pneumonia. She started having numbness in her right ear which has spread to the right side of her face. I m not sure if I should give her a Benadryl or just wait until I can speak with her pediatrician tomorrow morning?
Hi, Thanks for posting in HCM. I understand your concern. Numbness in the ears what your daughter is experiencing is due to congestion and inflammation of the pharynx. Kindly do the following along with the medications what has been prescribed for her pneumonia. 1. Salt water gargling with warm water thrice a day. 2. Take steam inhalation twice a day to liquefy the mucous for easy drainage. 3. Take mucolytic-decongestant medications in the form of syrup containing Ambroxol/Bromhexine, Guaifenesin and Chlorpheniramine maleate as ingredients. 4. Take anti-inflammatory medication Tablet. Ibuprofen after food. 5. Take medicated lozenges for throat soothening effect when necessary. Strictly avoid consumption of cold items like cold drinks and ice cream. Her symptoms should get better soon by adopting to above measures. Hope the information provided would be helpful. All the best.
