Is One Omeprazole A Day A Sufficient Dosage?

I think my question is basically answered below, though the answers don t quite agree. I was told to take omeprazole with ibuprofen, but the directions on the omeprazole box say take each morning before eating. i am not taking because of stomach issues but because doctor said to take with ibuprofen, which i won t even take everyday. Makes sense to me to take the antacid before or with the meal and the ibuprofen after, when needed. But I would take two ibuprofen over the day (breakfast and dinner), but only one omeprazole daily, correct?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi.

Yes, omeprazole once a day is a sufficient dose.

Omeprazole is a proton pump inhibit which acts by suppressing the stomach acid production which for 24 hours following a single dose.
And majority of patients respond to a single daily dose of omeprazole.

It is best taken on an empty stomach 30 to 60 minutes before breakfast or the largest meal of the day to ensure its activation at the acidic pH in the stomach.

So, one dose of omeprazole a day is sufficient to protect the acidity related side effects of ibuprofen.

Hope this answers your query.
