Is Oozing Blood From The Spot Of Birth Control Injection A Cause For Concern?

Hi, I m on the birth control shot and I self inject. The first time I did it, everything was fine, but just now there was a couple drops of blood that came out after I gave myself the shot on the butt. I m a little worried that I might very hit the vein and the shot won t be effective.. I m not sure what to do..

Hello,

When doing a self injection, it is necessary to pull first after inserting the needle to the muscle, in order to see if we are inside a vein (in such case blood will come inside the syringe). Anyway, I recommend waiting and see if you have any abnormal reaction (low or high blood pressure, palpitations, etc.) In such case going to the ER may be needed. Otherwise there is no reason to panic.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
