Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hello. How are you? I had my blood pressure taken yesterday, about 8 pm. I have high blood pressure. 152/100, roughly. Last night, i had someone new take my blood pressure. she inflated the cuff up to past the maximum of 300 mmgh. I now have red lines on my arm. what should she inflate the cuff to, and are the red lines normal? Is it normal for a Blood pressure test to hurt?
I understand your concern. Inflating blood pressure cuff very tightly would cause constriction of blood vessels of skin, which may cause micro-hemorrhage, which manifests as red spots or red rashes underneath the skin. Such rashes or spots would disappear on its own gradually. You may apply water-based moisturizer cream over the skin to keep skin hydrated and soothen the skin.
Hope the information provided would be helpful. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Ashakiran S
