Is Painful, Fecal Incontinence A Result Of Total Colectomy And Ileorectal Anastomosis?
I had a total colectomy with ileo rectal anastomosis 14 months ago. I do not know if I have an internal pouch.I have suffered moderate to severe abdo pain 24/7 ever since, plus faecal incontinence every day. I also suffer severe burning bum syndrome if a eat anything containing pectins as they cause excessive bile acids in faeces. It is agonising pain. I need to defecate 15 times a day or often all night. And at least another 10 toilet visits when I desperately need to go, but can t. I am 69 years old and had the op due to lifelong Hirschsprung s disease. I have no fever, infection or bleeding.
Yes, this may be caused by such operation since muscles responsible for defecation may be damaged during surgery. so I would suggest to do anal manometry and defecation tests to see if problem is in muscles or nerves around sphincter.
Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
