Is Pap Smear Necessary Despite Normal Results After A Hysterectomy?
In my 20s I had a series of treatments for abnormal pap smears (stage 2 dysplasia which progress to stage 3 during the course of treatment) and finally got the all clear. I went on t have children and in my 30s the abnormal results started up again along with severe menstruation pain and blood loss. So, I ended up deciding to go ahead with a complete hysterectomy keeping my ovaries. I was told at that time, that I would need to continue to have pap smears anyway Since my hysterectomy, i have had no abnormal results. Is it still necessary to have the exam done once a year or at all?
Yes mam in my opinion also you need to continue getting tested for pap smears on a regular basis. At least once a year for 3 years and then every 3 years is the usual protocol. Follow your gynecologist and wish you all the best.
