Is Persistent Upper Arm Pain Related To Heart Disease?
Hello, Over the past day and half my left upper arm hurts. Like having a blood pressure cup on it but not as strong. Aches all the time and at night hard to get comfortable. Also over the past 3-4 months seems I am having hot flashes again but I know this can not be so as I cleared menopause back when I was 50 and now I am 57. Could this be heart related? No I have not ever had any heart issues before thank you
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
Yes, this can be related to heart diseases. Post Menopausal women also always at risk of heart diseases. So better to consult cardiologist and get done blood pressure monitoring, ECG, 2D echo and stress test (trade mill test). If all these are normal then no need to worry for heart diseases. Musculoskeletal pain can also cause similar symptoms. So apply warm water pad on affected areas of arm. Avoid heavyweight lifting and strenuous exercise. Avoid sudden jerky movements of shoulder. Take simple painkiller like paracetamol or ibuprofen. Don't worry, you will be alright with all these. But first rule out heart diseases.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
