Is Pregnancy Possible Despite Having Mirena Coil Insert?

Hi I m Charlotte, I ve had the mirena coil in since April last year, since September last year after meeting my new partner I ve been getting every pregnancy symptom except positive blood and urine tests and lactating breasts, we also use condoms... I ve had it checked last week and doctor said she could see the threads... My question is it still possible to be pregnant?

Hi,

IUD- whether hormonal or copper device is almost a very safe reversible device of birth control. It is effective > 99%. Failure rate is very very less (0.2%) if it is placed carefully. Also, it is to be presumed, that it is in right place, if the thread can be felt inside. Also, if still pregnancy occurs, urine or blood test should also be positive. In your case, as the doctor could see the thread. blood and urine for pregnancy are negative, therefore your chances of being pregnant are almost nil.
