Is Pregnancy Possible While On Norethindrone Acetate?

Hi I am taking norethindrone acetate 5mg tablets for 12 days and then I stop and start taking it again 2 weeks after my menstral cycle begins. I was told by my OB/GYN that I could still get pregnant while taking this pill. But all I keep finding online is that it is a contraception instead. Am I wasting my time taking this? I ve been taking it since march of this year every month. Please help me. Thanks

Hi,

Norethindrone is a progestin preparation... used for contraception(when taken cyclically). Please understand this... it will not have the effect when taken irregularly... rather it can induce ovulation in such conditions which can cause pregnancy... but the fetus has to be removed... as the drug can cause congenital malformations in the fetus.

If you are taking with a wrong notion to support pregnancy after 2 weeks of periods... again it would cause harm by not allowing conception OR having a bad effect on the fetus.

You need to consult a gynecologist for proper advice for a suitable form of the hormone progesterone, & right time to consume it... if it is indicated.
