Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Is Progressive Supranuclear Palsy Related To Parkinson S Disease?
Hello Dr.Rhynne. Can PSP be considered a sub-set of Parkinsonsn Dz or of Parkinson-Plus Dz? Can exposure in Vietnam to Agent Orange in the late 1960s possibly have contributed to PSP? We know that it has been related to Parkinsons Dz. Thank you very much. Pat N.
Thanks for your question on Healthcare Magic. I can understand your concern. PSP (progressive supranuclear palsy) and Parkinson disease are different entity. They are not similar. So PSP is not subset of or related to Parkinson disease. The confusion lies because of common presenting symptoms. Single exposure to any agent is unlikely to cause PSP. Chronic exposure (over years) of agent orange can cause PSP. Hope I have solved your query. I will be happy to help you further. Wish you good health. Thanks.
