Is Rising And Falling Haemoglobin Level A Concern?

My dad is 80 years old and had a bleeding ulcer which they repaired with endoclips. He was released grom the hospital a month ago with a hemoglobin level of 8.9. He has to go in to have his levels checked every two weeks. Two weeks ago his levels were at 9.4 now today they were back fown to 8.9. Should he be concerned? His doc isnt concerned but I am. He is taking ferrous sulfate twice a day and 40 mg of omrperzole. Shouldnt his lebels go up not down?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

We have to look for underlying cause by which the hemoglobin falls. You have to go for a stool occult blood test to look for blood loss through stool and peripheral smear to look for hemtological causes.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Shinas Hussain, General & Family Physician
