Hello,
I appreciate your query.
You are suffering from a condition known as anaemia. ( deficiency of
haemoglobin )
Also, the most common cause of anaemia in India and other developing countries is
iron deficiency anemia ( prevalence is more than 50 % in pregnant women )
Anaemia of
pregnancy is generally defined as Hb
At this level of 9.8 / 10.4, you should initiate investigations and treatment because of potentially serious consequences you and the baby.
One reason for this is that in pregnancy, your total body fluid amount increases, so haemoglobin is diluted. But the main reason for iron deficiency anemia is a dietary deficiency of iron,
folic acid and protein.
A pregnant woman requires about 2 to 4.8 mg iron every day. To have it from the dietary
sources she must consume 20-48 mg of dietary iron. This is practically impossible because average vegetarian diet does not contain more than 10-15 mg of iron , hence you need to take
iron supplements.
Your gynaecologist will prescribe you oral iron tablets, which you must take regularly. There are various brands available in the market, for which you will be guided accordingly. Also include Vitamin C in your diet, as it enhances iron absorption.
You should fortify your diet and include Pulses, cereals, jaggery, Beet root, Green leafy vegetables, meat, liver, egg, fish, legumes, dry beans, and iron enriched cereals and breads.
You should report to your doctor if you have any kind of
bleeding disorder, or if your
Hemoglobin levels do not improve inspite of therapy.
Hope this helped you.
