Is Smoking Marijuana After Diagnosing A Blood Clot In The Brain Dangerous?

Hi. I have been diagnosed with a blood clot to my brain. I have been given Epilim, Aspirin and pain medications. This diagnosis was made in September of this year. I am on those pills for 3 months and will be going back to get an update from the doctors in January. I smoke marijuana occasionally. Is that an issue?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,
Thanks for posting in HCM.
I understand your concern.
Smoking weed (Marijuana) releases the main psychoactive chemical 'tetrahydrocannabinol' (THC), which is absorbed into the bloodstream via the lungs. It alters the chemicals in the brain and nervous system, which could cause vasoconstriction and alterations in the functioning of the heart. Hence, it can eventually increase blood pressure and heart rate, which can affect brain.
Since you have been diagnosed with a blood clot in brain and undergoing treatment for it, it would be advisable to discontinue its use as it might cause serious effects on your brain.
Hope the information provided would be helpful.
All the best.
