Is Streptococcus Agalactiae In Bladder A Normal Infection After Hysterectomy?

I had a partial hysterectomy two weeks ago. Everything was ok until week two when I developed streptococcus agalactiae in bladder. I'm now on ciprofloxacin and still in much pain. Is this a normal type of infection or should I be worried. I am. 59 year old.

Welcome to HCM.

Streptococcus agalactiae is a Group B streptococcus and is a normal commensal present in the female genital tract. It is an opportunistic pathogen and causes infection only when the immunity is low. As you have had surgery and have been on antibiotics, your immunity would have become low and you have acquired this infection. You have been correctly prescribed ciprofloxacin for treatment. Please complete the full course of antibiotics prescribed, and keep the genital area clean and dry. Drink adequate water per day which will help flush out the infection to some extent. Thanks.
