Is Sudden Shortness Of Breath A Symptom Of COPD?

i have shortness of breath, it came on suddenly. My doctor says it is COPD but i have no cough most of the time and no mucus. My heart checked out ok, my oxygen levels were good enough and the inhaler i have , proventil hfa, does no good at all. i just can t get on board with this diagnosis. I am at a loss and can barely function at this point from the shortness of breath. I am obese but that hasn t changed any in the last five years and this just started about 6 months ago.

HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease) can consist of emphysema, chronic bronchitis or a combination of both.

Though chronic bronchitis can be associated with coughing and increased mucus production, this is not as common with emphysema so it is possible that you have more emphysema than chronic bronchitis.

You may need pulmonary function tests eg spirometry to determine if you do have COPD

I hope this helps
