Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My mother, age 91, has been diagnosed with a thoracic aneurysm several years ago. She is regularly monitored (her blood pressure and cholesterol), takes medications for both. She eats a heart healthy diet and remains active. She volunteers 30 hours a week at our local medical center. She went for another screening last week and the aneurysm has gotten larger than 5.5 cm. Would surgery be an option at her age? Can she still safely live alone and continue to drive short distances?
After going through your medical query I understand your concern and I would like to tell you that ideally thoracic aneurysms should be corrected with surgery but considering her age and other co morbid sir she has and life expectancy should be considered before going for it.
Hopefully this information will guide you properly.
Kind Regards Dr Bhanu Partap
