Is Surgery Needed For Mitral Valve Prolapse And Ectopy?

I have been diagnosed with mitral valve prolapse and some ectopy. My physician suspects that the two are related. the left side of the heart is also 20% enlarged and surgery has been recommended. Is this recomendation appropriate?



I am a 47 year old male, 100kg ( 5% body fat ), exercise regulalrly and drink very little alcohol.

You have not mentioned the complete echo report.
A trial of beta-blockers for symptomatic relief can be taken.
Abstinence from stimulants such as caffeine, alcohol, and cigarettes is also recommended if u have ectopics.
Asymptomatic patients with moderate-to-severe mitral regurgitation and left ventricular enlargement undergo surgery before left ventricular function deteriorates.
Probably your doctor recommendation is appropriate.
Mitral valve repair is recommended over valve replacement.
