Is Surgery Needed To Cure Hiatial Hernia With Very Bad Acid Reflux?

Hi I have Hiatial Hernia and very bad Acid Reflux its hurts and sometime hard to breath i go the dpctor in Jan 2014 Do you think i might have to have Surgney for this i cannot even sleep good anymore i am 49 and t really just real bad in the last 3 months!!!!

Hi, thank you for posting.

Hiatial Hernia is a disease that is manifested with GERD (Gastroesophageal reflux disease).
In most common cases Hiatial Hernia is cured with conservative treatment(a treatment, that doesn't include any operation or intervention).

I think that you don't need surgery to cure Hiatial Hernia.

But you should follow these precautions:
1- Change your head position, by elevating the head of your bed.
2- Avoid lying down directly after meals until treatment is rendered.
3- Lose weight.

Antacid medicines are used in these cases for 6-8 weeks.

If you follow these precautions your health condition will improve.

Consult your gastroenterologist.
