Is Surgery Recommended For Large Calcifications In Shoulder?
I have been diagnosed with several large calcifications in my shoulder and am now scheduled for surgery. I went in to gp doc to get clearance for surgery and he asked, WHY am I have surgery if I can move my shoulder in all directions without pain. I have had 2 cortisone shots. Should I wait on my surgery until further pain?
Here, knowing the cause for calcification is important serum alkaline phosphatase to be checked and the serum calcium and parathyroid hormone assay can be done to rule out probable cause of calcification.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Rajatha S. S., General & Family Physician
