Is Surgery Required For The Condition After Analyzing Sonography Report?
Hi, I am sajid, my father-in-law age 50 year as a stomach pain, his sonography report say, 1) grade 1 fatty change in liver 2) ENLARGED PROSTATE ( WT- 23GM) with hypertrophied urinary bladder wall 3)there are mutiple calculi in gall bladder with mild wall thickness and probe tenderness. The possibility of acute cholecystitis needs consideration. Does he need operation and what will be possible danger to his life. Please clarify
Hi Sajid. Multiple calculi in gall bladder needs operation to remove the gall bladder with calculi, as there is already inflamed wall with probe tenderness. The possible dangers are - complications of general anesthesia as difficulty in getting out of anesthesia , bleeding during surgery, damage to nearby structures. Now-a-days this surgery is performed by laparoscopy or a small hole surgery. Before surgery i would advice to get all blood tests, Liver function tests, ECG , X-ray chest and opinion of he physician or an anesthetist as to the fitness for anesthesia and surgery. If he turns out to be fit , go ahead with surgery. The complication rates are very very low with the advent of new techniques of surgery and anesthesia.
