Is Swollen Ankle A Symptom Of Gout?

I have a sudden swelling of my ankle without injury, It is stiff and very painful. It has progressed in 24 hours to inability to walk on it. I am 65 and have suffered from gout for several years, in my big toes. Is this likely gout? Will gout medication likely be successful in treatment? YYYY@YYYY

Hi,

Swelling & pain at the ankle joint may be due to infections, injuries, blisters, corns, ingrown toenails, bunions, arthritis etc. As you are already on treatment for gout, it could be it's present on ankle joint. I advice you to:
1. Take Analgesics like acetaminophen, anti inflammatory drugs like ibuprofen
2. Apply ice pack for 15 - 20 minutes to get rid of  pain
3. Also do stretching exercises
4. Do serum uric acid levels to assess the status of gout
5.Take plenty of water

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further. Get well soon.

Regards,
