Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Is Taking Hydrocodone Advisable While Having Fluid In Lungs In A COPD Patient?
Hello if I have parkinsons induced COPD, and restrictive lung disease, healthy lungs but paralyzed diaphrams and chest wall muscles ...will the cough suppressing effect of hydrocodone 5-325 make it difficult to clear my lungs of accumulated fluid during the night?
Paralysis of chest wall muscles and diaphragms will make it difficult for the lungs to clear themselves. Hydrocodone has cough suppressive effect, however, stoppage of the drug is not advised without medical consultation.
I suggest you consult your treating doctor for clearance of lungs by intubation or any other assistive mode.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Shailja Puri, Pathologist and Microbiologist
