Is Taking Macrodantin Safe While On Metronidazole?
I have been prescribed metronide/metronidazole by my dentist for my gingivitis in my gums and a metallic taste I ve had in my mouth for several months. I am also taking macrodantin for frequent urinary tract infection. I am also menopausal and suffered once from an inflamed liver. Should I stop taking the macrodantin while I am on the metronidazole?
Hi & Welcome to HCM. It is not safe to take Macrodantin while on Metronidazole. Taken together these medications may increase the risk of nerve damage. You may need a dose adjustment or more frequent monitoring by your doctor to safely use both medications. Let your dentist know if you develop numbness, pain, burning, or tingling in your hands and feet. Beside, since you have suffered from inflamed liver you should not take Macrodantin as it can cause liver injury. So, stop taking this medication and consult your physician for an alternate but a safer medication for frequent urinary tract infection. Hope this answers your query.
