Is Taking Barium Sulfate Before Cat Scan Required?
Yes, thank you. tomorrow I am having a Cat Scan of lower abdomen/ possible hernia/Dr. is checking this out; in which I am grateful....I have to drink Barium Sulfate Suspension tonight and another bottle tomorrow morning on the way....before scheduled cat scan. First can I drive home after test. I m not sure what to expect from drinking this potion. I am a little nervous about the test. I ve had cat scan s before...but have not had to drink 2 bottle of barium sulfate. The instructions were not very clear...from the person behind the desk. I appreciate you giving encouragement I need to do this.
Yes you can definitely drink barium sulfate safely. It will not cause any harm. And bariim meal with CT abdomen is indicated in small and large intestinal intra luminal pathology. Overnight barium ingestion will reach barium to your large intestine till morning. So at the time of ct scan your bowel is filled with barium and it will gives clear cut vision of the lumen and lumen wall. So any intraluminal pathology, wall defect can be easily picked up. So with out fear you can undergo this test.
