Is The Treatment For Postpartum Depression For My Daughter Going Right?

Hi . My daughter is in the hospital since 6/6/16, started treatment for post partum depression on 6/9/16 they have her on Abilify 30 mg at night, litium 300 miligrams twice a day (they say mood stabilizer), Clonacepan(Xanax) 2 miligran 3 times a day and Geodon 80 mg twice a day. My concern I don t see her getting any better and I m worried if she might get permanent damage with all these high doses of medications. Not to forget she just weight 92 pounds and after she gave birth on 5/19/16. She was one week at home she was breast feeding then she was not able to accomplish normal and basic task like remember to eat or take a bath or complete breast pump, then she started getting very anxiety and finished in the hospital with a diagnostic of post partum depression with psychosis with the hospital haven t been able to control, until today. Do you think they are going thru the right path or do you think like me I think she is overmedicated for her weight? Can you please advise don t know what to think at this point.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

I don't think she is getting overmedicated. She may need up to two weeks to get better in order that her body gets uses to the new medications.

I am sorry for her situation but I am sure she is having the right treatment and will fill better soon.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Olgeta Xhufka, General & Family Physician
