Is There An Alternative Drug To Desmopressin For Diabetes Insipidus?
hi my husband has diabetes insipidus with an acute intollerance to desmpressin he has started to have seizures after taking it now is there any alternative treatment? this drug is killing him and hospitals are just saying theres nothing they can do pls help maxine
Since Diabetes Insipidus is due to the deficiency/absence of vasopressin, replacement with Desmopressin is the best treatment. I understand your concern regarding the seizures. There are a couple of other medicines that have been used in DI and have got some degree of success. Of these Carbamazepine is probably helpful for your husband as it is primarily a medicine used for seizures. It is widely used in seizure disorders and may help your husband in more than one way. You may discuss this with your husband's doctor . I shall be interested in knowing his progress and you are welcome to contact me if you have further queries. Best wishes, Dr. Noble Zachariah
