Is There An Ayurvedic Treatment For Tuberous Sclerosis In An Infant?
My Name is Kunal Kishore basically from Patna, Bihar. Currently I am
working in Pune, India. Sir, my son is 7 months old and doctor told us that he is suffering
from Tuberous Sclerosis. We did his CT and MRI in month of Dec 2011as he was getting Infantile Spasms (IS) 3 times a day for 3 to 4 minutes. Currently treatment is going on in one of the Hospital called Aditya Birla Hospital in Pune. He is on ACTH injection for last two weeks and after 3 days his spasms were totally gone but after 10th day of ACTH he is getting one Infantile Spasms (IS) once a day for 1 min. Now they are planning to start Sabril (Vigabatrin) 500mg ½ tablets twice a day
from 15th Jan 2012 but this tablet has severe side effect of permanent vision loss which is one of my major concern. Also, they told us that there is no treatment of Tuberous Sclerosis and this will affect our baby through out his life span. Do you think ayurvedic treatment is better than allopathic medicine?

1. Tuberous Sclerosis [TS] is an autosomal recessive disorder characterized by mental retardation, skin lesions and kidney tumor.
2. There is no specific treatment for TS and treatment is usually symptomatic:
. Multidimensional approach consisting of professionals like psychologist, neurologist,cardiologist.
. antiepileptic drugs due to seizures. [already receiving]
. laser therapy for skin lesions.
. Brain tubers can be treated with medicines whereas kidney tumour need surgery
3. because of the risk of vision loss, vigabatrin) is used when you and your doctor decide that the possible benefits are more important than the risks.
PS. all babies should have vision test before starting Sabril or within 4 weeks after starting Sabril, and every three months after that until Sabril is stopped.
