Is There Any Correlation Between Lump On Chest And IPF?

My husband was diagnosed with IPF on 5/25 and he died 6/25. He had a lump on his chest for several years that caused discomfort but his pcp refused to send him for a biopsy and told him it was nothing. Could there be a correlation between the lump and the IPF?

Hello
Thanks for your query.
There is no correlation between a lump and IPF. IPF is a disease in which total lung especially the basal segments become fibrotic and patient usually have a downheal course. In the literature it has been found that long standing IPF may sometime give rise to adenocarcinoma of lung. But literature yet didn't reveal any correlation between lump and IPF.
Thank you.
