Hi , My Mother has ovarian cancer and is terminal . Hospice is giving her Lorazapan and Morphine every two hrs however she is suffering greatly with breathing . Is there any drug that will ease her breathing ?
Both morphine and lorazepam can cause breathing difficulty. There are two options to ease her breathing: 1. To decrease the dose of lorazepam. Morphine would be essential for her as she might be having intense pain. 2. to nebulise her using some bronchodilators.
I would prefer 1st option because adding another drug will add the drug load to the body which is not advisable in patients already having life-threatening illnesses. Hope this helps. Thanks
