My mom is taking both diovan for her bp and metformin for her high blood sugar. She is 77 years old. The doctor's office called her to say her kidneys were "worse than normal" so she had to go and have an ultra sound this morning on her kidneys and also her bladder. The dr. told her yesterday that until they get the results, she should stop taking the Diovan. I just found out about this. I love 150 miles away from Mom and I won't be able to talk to her dr. until Monday to determine what "worse than normal" means. Her dr. is a surgeon, not an internist. 9 months ago she had surgery 75 miles from her home and was assigned an internist at the hospital. He told her that she needed to come off the Metformin because of her kidneys, and while she was in the hospital she was on insulin. She, of course, did not like that, and as soon as she got home went back on her Metformin.
