Is There Any Relation Between Indigestion And Hernia
Have a para-umbilical hernia, but had it for years. Not big, just a small foot like shape above naval. I don't have to have surgery yet unless it really bothers me. But in the meantime, have indigestion in chest area, and stomach gets large after eating. It goes down the next day. Don't know if these are part of the symptoms of the hernia. Please advise.
Hi. Thanks for your query. Noted the history and understood your concerns. Since umbilical or para-umbilical is small, present for years and is not painful or so the intestinal symptoms are not related to the indigestion in chest area and enlargement of the abdomen after eating that goes down the next day. The most probable cause can be as follows: Intestinal obstruction as would be seen by bloating after food. I would advise you the following: Barium meal or contrast CT scan get the most probable cause and if found to have intestinal obstruction you need further evaluation and once confirmed the specific cause a specific treatment and/or surgery will be done to get a permanent cure. If intestinal infection is found during the investigations you will need medical treatment till cured.
