Dear Sidra, You mentioned that your baby has profound hearing loss for both ears as per the hearing evaluation done 3 months ago. I would like to emphasize that hearing loss which is profound and permanent and not related to factors that can be managed medically like ear infections or chronic fluid accumulation need to be taken care of soon. Since speech development and social performance is highly dependent on hearing ability in this age group, if left without being taken care of, your child can have significant delays in language development which may get extremely difficult to manage if not dealt with at this age and as a result of which your child have significant difficulties in social performance and school delays. I would recommend you to consult a good ENT surgeon who specializes in pediatric patients and as scary as it may seem but to achieve appropriate language development for your daughter, I would suggest to go ahead with the implant surgery if recommended by the ENT Surgeon without any delays. Also, at the same time, I would suggest you to enroll your daughter in speech therapy classes as she will need to catch up for her speech delay.
