Hi,I am Dr. Prabhakar Koregol (Cardiologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Im 17, 143 lbs and i play basketball i just took my Resting heart rate and it was 57 in a minute. I was in Flagstaff Arizona last week and i took my resting heart rate there and it was 85 in a minute and I live in Alaska. Im not sure if im in shape or not but my body fat percent is about 12%. i was wondering if 57 beats per minute is too low or what and if i should "raise" my heart rate.
Yes your heart rate can be too low but your's seem fine. It's in the normal range. Since you play basketball and are active both your pulse and blood pressure will be lower than most people since you are in better shape. I'm an emt so I take a lot of pulses. If it gets lower than 40 then you should be looking for a doctors appointment.
