Is Using Althea Contraceptive Pills While Having Varicose Veins Safe?

HI, i'm carrie from philippines..my question is that i am currently using althea contraceptive pills but i do have varicose veins..Does it safe for me to continue this pills or is there any contraceptive pills which is safe for varicose veins? pls. help..thank you

Hi Althea,
Welcome to healthcare Magic!
The varicose veins are indicative of incompetent venous valves and increase the chances of superficial thrombosis.
You should have yourself check for coagulation profile and review to a local doctor. If there is a procoagulant state or it risk factors like obesity, prologed sitting type life style then you must avoid pills.
Otherwise you can take small dose progestin only pills or low dose estrogen combination pills.
