Is Vaginal Bleeding Normal Despite Testing Positive For Pregnancy?

Hello. So about 4 days ago I took a pregnancy test and it was positive . I have taken one pretty much everyday since just cause of the fact of it being hard to believe . Well tonight I had dark red bleeding. After I realized I was bleeding I took another test and was positive within 30 seconds or even less. Is this normal?

Hello,

Welcome to Healthcare Magic.

I have read your question fully and understand your concerns.

I am assuming that you just missed a period and hence did the pregnancy test, which has come as positive.

To answer your question – yes, a woman can have period like bleeding even when they are pregnant. I have personally seen women in my clinic who were caught unawares that they could be pregnant, as they continued to have periods at their regular times. They only realised they could be pregnant in about the 4th or 5th month when they found their tummy to be swollen or when they started to feel the movements of the baby.

But on the other hand, you also need to be aware that any bleeding in pregnancy could also possibly be due to a miscarriage (or an ectopic pregnancy). I am not sure if you are having crampy lower abdominal pain or back pain along with the bleeding. Pregnancy test may remain positive from 1 week to about 4-5 weeks even if a woman has had a miscarriage ( this depends on how far she in in her pregnancy and if the miscarriage is partial or complete etc.)

As you know that you are pregnant and started bleeding, I would suggest you to see your ObGyn. She may run a blood test on you to check for pregnancy hormone levels(HCG), and also may do an early pregnancy scan to make sure that everything is alright.

I hope this answer has helped you.

Thank you
