Is Weakening Of Lower Body As The Years Go By, Due To Rheumatic Fever?

when i was 2yrs old living in Queens, n.y., i was diagnosed with rheumatic fever. tho my heart is strong, the lower-half of my body collapsed and i had to be carried for an extensive time. it was thought that i would not be able to walk but i revived and was active but always had autoimmune diseases to deal with. in my 40 s my lower-half started becoming weaker until the 50 s suddenly my legs became weaker and continued. i don t walk well now---i m 68. my neurologist said it s due to other conditions i have but i continue to wonder if is a left-over from rheumatic fever or even a misdiagnosis from my childhood.

Hi.Thankyou for your quiry
Brief...It could be because of different medications you used for autoimmune diseases.
Detailed...As you have said that there is no heart valve problem, and have been taking different autioimmune problems. As we know that to treat autoimmune we have to use those medicines which decrease immunity in body like steroids and antiautoimmune medications. They cause sideffects largely on bones and mucsles as steroids cause low calcium level.
For that get complete blood count, calcium level and blood sugar level to rule out any other effect by medications.
Once rheumatic fever is treated,it is less likely that this problem can be becauce of remission of that fever.
