Is Weight Monitoring Advisable For A Heart Patient?
I am a student nurse doing research on a stroke patient. I am supposed to find out why we monitor a stroke patients weight and what we are watching for. I am having trouble finding out exactly why we monitor their weight. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Hi, Thanks for posting in HCM. Weight monitoring in heart patient would indirectly reflect on the Body Mass Index (BMI) and lipid changes occurring. Weight gain and obesity are the risk factors associated with development of heart attack and stroke in a high risk individual. Hence, monitoring of weight along with blood pressure and blood glucose levels regularly during follow-up is necessary, as any changes in it can be noticed early and appropriate measures can be taken to correct the same. Any other information you need, feel free to write to me. Hope the information provided would be helpful. All the best.
