Ischemic Strokes Affecting Left Temporoparietal Region, When Will Person Regain Consciousness ?

My grandmother has had an ischaemic stroke about 9 days ago. She was started on conservative treatment. On the third day ct scan revealed haemorrhagic transformation within the infarct but not big enough to warrant surgery . She has been in ICu now for 11 days in a semi conscious state gas ranging from 9 - 11. It was a left mca stroke affecting the temporoparietal region. When will she regain consciousness?

Hello, it is definitely a good sign that the infarct is a small one and your grand mother is in semi conscious state. She requires few more days probably 8-10 days more to regain her consciousness. Adding to this let me clear you that recovery/ regaining depends up on age (younger the age early the recovery), onset of the disease (sudden onset slow recovery where as gradual & fast onset early recovery) , environmental context (enrich environment better recovery).... Now to you can do certain things to accelerate the recovery of your grand mother. 1. Listening music of her favorite by walkman/ i-pod, 2. encourage her to speak few words etc. All these things can only be implemented by checking GCS (Glassgow Coma Scale) scoring, which your consulting physician would be knowing.. After all contineous observation of your physician is essential in all aspects.so wish your grand mother a early recovery.....
