It Is Possible That Heart Rhythm Will Be Back To Normal On Taking Amiodarone 200 Mg?

hi doc,im jerry briones diagnosed by my cardio last month with attrial fibrillation and I was given medication for 90 days amiodrone 200mg and aspirin 80mg.Itis possible that my heart rhythym will be back to normal safter 90 days and besides I take walking and jogging every day?Im 52 years old.

Dear Jerry,

Thanks for the query. Amiodarone has about 65% chance of putting you back into sinus rhythm after having good concentrations for several weeks, so by now we should know if you are out of atrial fibrillation with a repeat ECG. If you are not, consideration could be given to an electrical cardioversion to reset the heart, and the amiodarone would help increase the chances of you staying in normal rhythm.
