Itching On Rib Cage. What Could Be The Reason?

I have a really bad what feels like a dry bone itch in my rib cage. Its not my skin or muscles that itch but the bone. It is followed by a slight numbing and tingling sensation when i scratch them. I recently gave birth and was wondering if its possible that i cracked some ribs delivering and they itch because they are healing now. It s been doing it for like 3 or 4 days now.

Orthopaedic Surgeon, Joint Replacement 's  Response
Hello,
Thanks for your query.
The symptoms you have described are more likely to be symptoms of muscles strain over rib cage.
To get relief from the pain(itchy sensation) and for quick healing:
1. Do hot fomatation at the site.
2. Apply local anti-inflammatory gel 2-3 times a day.
3. Take anti-inflammatory drugs like Ibuprofen to reduce pain and local swelling or inflammation.
4. Do not lift weight or try to do exercise that involve painful muscles. Give proper time for the injury to heal.

I do hope that you have found something helpful and I will be glad to answer any further query.
Take care
