Itchy Sore Incision Site Near The Ileostomy. Abdominal Scar Infected. What To Do?
Hi. My daughter as an abdominal scar that was oopened 4 surgery twice in 2 yrs. Both times the wound became infected, opened and took months 2 heal. 5his was 4 yrs ago. She also has an ileostimy beside this scar. The scar is now becoming unbearably itchy and sore to touch, however no immediate sign of infection. Is this something 2 worry about
2 years after a surgery the scar is completely formed and should not change much or should not give any itching.
However, as the scar is close to the ileostomy, sometimes stool gets under the skin and infects soft tissues under the scar. This usually gives redness, pain and fever as a result of an infection.
Other possible reason of her symptoms are stitches which sometimes start irritate the tissues and can cause such itching. This stitches are in the deeper parts of soft tissues. If so, the stitches needs to be found and removed.
I suggest you to visit general surgeon who will take a look at this scar and decide if there ii something that needs to be done.
Hope this will help.
Regards.
