Have Umbilical Hernia. Clear, Smelly Discharge From Belly Button. Normal?
My brother in law was diagnosed with a umbilcal hernia at the hospital. They did alot of pushing on his abdomen. Since they pushed on his abdomen he is having a clear smelly discharge from his belly button. Its been about 3-4 days and now along with the discharge he has what looks like a open wound in his bellybutton. Is this normal for a umbilacla hernia or is there maybe something else wrong? I am worried about an infection setting in with the open wound and pussing.
Hello, Thanks for the query to H.C.M. Forum. All symptoms ,which ,you mentioned are an indication ,that is UMBILICAL FISTULA . The umbilicus being a central abdominal scar , it is understandable that a slow LEAK from any viscus is liable to track to the surface ( exterior site). Umbilicus is a creek in which many fistulous ducts may open. Due to fistulous ducts opening there develops pus type or fluid type discharge. If untreated the infection may spread. Consult a surgeon and get his opinion and deal according to his opinion. Hope I have answered your question. If further any question I will help. Good luck. Dr. HET
