Jawbone Pain, Swollen Under Chin, On Paracetamol. Suggestion?
I have a very painful area in my jawbone and this has now developed into a painful swollen lump under my chin to the left hand side. I have benn taking paracetamol for a couple of days to help with pain relief this before the lump appeared. Will it go away in a day or so? I am 73 years old and a career for my husband who has dementia.
as you said you have pain and lump in your jaw bone,it can be because of infection in the tooth or any lesion of jaw bone.
The lump appeared even on taking paracetamol shows the ongoing infection there.
so instead of having only pain killers you have to take antibiotics also.
My advice would be you should visit the dentist and get thourogh examination of the teeth and jaw bone done,x-ray should be taken and according o the findings treatment should be given.
please don't wait for subsiding of the lesion by itself as it can cause you further trouble.
take care and write a review if you are satisfied by the explanation.

There is a need for xray of the jaw and consultation with dentist and facio-maxillary surgeon. One needs to know whether swelling is arising from jaw bone or gum or softer tissues .Depending on the finding treatment shall vary.Sometimes infection there may require antibiotics , so consult dentist as a first step
hi....i have gone through your query and it seems the lump beneath your chin is probably due to collection of pus i.e periapical abcess in one of your lower front tooth. The reason could be advanced dental caries which will b more clear after an xray. Also u haven't mentioned the duration from which you have been experiencing this pain, also weather it is continuous or intermittent and if it is more during meal times. do u hve any history of pain in the same region before?? Physical examination is very important for a proper diagnosis. It is advisable if you consult a dentist for the treatment.take care
Pain and swelling in the jaw bone can be due to infection from any tooth or presence of bony lesion. An infected tooth can spread its infection in the jaw bone in such cases treatment of the tooth and drainage of abscess is required.
I would suggest you to consult to an Oral Surgeon and get the checkup done, taking an OPG radiograph will be helpful in confirming the diagnosis.
I would suggest you to take a course of tab Augmentin and tab Aceclofenac serrotiopeptidase combination TDS for 3-5 days.
At home take lukewarm saline and antiseptic mouthwash rinses.
Hope you find this as helpful,
Regards....
