Joints And Skin Elastic, Shoulders Pop Out Of Socket. No Sensation. What Is This?
I recently met a young girl while doing a health crusade in Peru. She is 15 years old and has hyper elasticity. Her joints and skin are very elastic. Her shoulders pop out of socket (way out of socket) on command or when carrying heavy objects. She says that at night (not while sleeping, simply in the evening) she feels nothing. She has no sense of feeling at night at all, even when she is awake.
We have had doctors look at her and they cannot seem to find a legitimate explanation.
The symptoms as mentioned in your post suggest that the young girl is having Connective tissue disorder...most probably Ehlers–Danlos syndrome. In this syndrome, there is defect in the collagen which results in hyper-elasticity of skin & hyper-flexible, unstable joints.
Diagnosis can be made by proper history & clinical examination. Investigations like skin biopsy & collagen testing will be helpful.
So, kindly consult an Orthopedician for a proper clinical examination & further management.
