Kid Had Cold, Tonsils, Adenoids. Tried Antibiotics. Got Relief By Ayurvedic Medicine. Mild Odor From Nose. Suggestions?
Hello Sir,
My 7 year old son was suffering from cold from past four years.He had mild tonsils and adinoids;There was frequent thick yellowish discharge from his nose.doctor had given lot of antibiotics.now we are giving him ayurvedic medicine.now cold is fully reduced.there is no discharge.but we are experiencing mild bad odour in his nose.kindly suggest some remidy

Foul odour from nose often makes stuck secretion or stuck objects likely. Get the nose cleaned by doctor with a tube. get xrays for nasopharynx and xray PNS to confirm associated adenoid tonsil or sinus issues severity.
Things are treatable if detected early. Ayurvedic meds cannot help if the nose septum is curved, or there is an obstruction due to adenoids.
Not gaining weight and frequent infections may necessitate a surgery.

Your son is most likely to suffer from Atrophic Rhinitis in which the nasal cavities become roomy and are filled with foul smelling crusts which are black or dark green and dry, making expiration painful and difficult.
Microorganisms are known to multiply and produce a foul smell from the nose, though your son may not be aware of this, because their elements (responsible for the perception of smell) have become atrophied.
Your Son usually complain of nasal obstruction despite the roomy nasal cavity, which can be caused either by the obstruction produced by the discharge in the nose, or as a result of sensory loss due to atrophy of nerves in the nose
Bleeding from the nose, may occur when the dried discharge (crusts) are removed.
One of the most widely used treatments is NASAL IRRIGATION
1) Irrigations are used to prevent the formation of the hallmark extensive crusting. To achieve this result, irrigations must often be done multiple times in a daY
2) 25% glucose in glycerine can be applied to the nasal mucosa to inhibit the growth of foul-smelling proteolytic organisms.

Enlargement of tonsils and adenoids is normally found in children of this age group.
Recurrent cold could be because of allergies or sinusitis.
Mild odor from the nose could be because of crusts in the nose.
Normal saline drops should be useful in such cases.
Even after using those drops if the symptoms persist then you should consult your doctor for further evaluation.
