Kid, Having Difficulty In Bowel Movement. Started Giving Diluted Juices. Suggest Diet?
hello, my granddaughter is having a terrible time having a bowel movement...this happens on an every other day basis. She is bottle fed (formula) and my daughter has just started to introduce her to water and diluted juices. How much juice can she give her in a day and is apple juice the best to give her for this problem. Her legs shake and she turns really red when she's trying..it's horrible I don't know what to do to help her. Please help.
Thanks for writing to health care magic. I can understand your concern. You forgot to mention the age of your baby. If your baby is more than 6 months solids should be introduced. That constitutes fiber in the diet which will help in the formation of stools. If the problem persists then laxatives should be used. Simple fruit juices may not contain fiber required for the baby. Some times various other problems like hypothyroidism etc may be responsible for constipation which can be identified only after physical examination. Continue to ask further queries as required. Hope this helps. Take care. Dr Y V Siva Sankara Murty M.D.(Pediatrics) Associate Professor of Pediatrics

Kid, Having Difficulty In Bowel Movement. Started Giving Diluted Juices. Suggest Diet?
Hi, Thank you for your query on Healthcare Magic. What is her age ? It seems she is having constipation with passing hard stools due to which she is having severe pain while passing motion. Some times anal fissure also formed which may be the cause of severe pain at passing stool. Her stool to be made soft by giving plenty of oral fluids, dietary fiber rich food, and oral laxatives such as lactulose. Consult the doctor to examine for fissure and for medication advise. Hope I have answered your query. Regards.
