Knee Pain After Undergoing Physiotherapy For Guillain-Barre Syndrome. How To Treat This Condition?

Dear Doctor

I'm currently suffering from GBS and was briefly treated with Physiotherapy at a nursing home. After about receiving less than ten hours of therapy, I was discharged from the facility. And I am now at home. At home, I've been trying to perform the same exercises done at the nursing home. Like walking using a walker or moving about a wheel chair. My main problem now, is that I suffer from terrible leg/knee pain during the nights. Can you please inform me why this happens and what can I possibly do to find a remedy to this problem. Thank you.

Hi,

Since you are diagnosed with GB syndrome recently You may need 3 to 6 months or longer to recover from GBS. And you may have to wait several months before you can return to your regular activities.

You check out if the necessary Intravenous Ig are given to you at hospital, if not then get it by consulting your treating doctor. It is usually given within 4 weeks of infection. These hasten recovery by clearing out the toxins from body.

Occupational therapists may offer equipment (such as wheelchair and special cutlery) to help the patient achieve ADL independence. Physiotherapists assist to correct functional movement, avoiding harmful compensations that might have a negative effect in the long run.And exercise is only way to recover from disease.

For the pain you may take painkillers like brufen as steroid will not be helpful.

Regards
